Forecasts of analysts (estimates) are gathered by ‘Institutional Brokers Estimates System’ or I/B/E/S and Bloomberg. I/B/E/S data is in the UL available through ThomsonOne and through WRDS (Wharton Research Data Service). ThomsonOne has access to the most recent, consensus forecasts; WRDS offers also the history and the forecasts of individual analysts.
Forecasts by companies
The module I/B/E/S Guidance gives access to quantitative company expectations, collected from press releases and transcripts of corporate events.
Access to I/B/E/S
You find WRDS in the list of financial databases on the website of the EDSC. To get access to WRDS (and I/B/E/S) you need a VPN-connection. WRDS also asks for your email address, this has to be your ERNA email address. WRDS sends a link to this email address; this link is valid for 14 days. After 14 days you can request a new link.
In WRDS you select IBES in the column at the left side of the screen. I/B/E/S has several modules. Here we show you how to use:
- IBES Academic – Detail History with analyst-by-analyst estimates.
- IBES Academic – Summary Statistics provides data on a consensus level, for example the mean estimates.
- IBES Guidance – Detail with company expectations.
